NUESTRA CASA Scratch Festival 2011
CASA Latin American Theatre Festival 2011 is proud to announce the return of the Nuestra CASA Scratch Festival.
There are very few other scratch nights like it: we bring together the most promising Latin American theatre-makers who are resident in the UK, give them £250, two days rehearsal space and their own mentor. Their task? To come up with ten to fifteen minutes of new material that makes the punters wonder why they were not included in the main programme from the outset.
Our aim is to encourage Latin Americans in the UK to turn the theatre they have been imagining into something they can present before a receptive public. The pieces will be discussed by the panel and spectators, then those that excite us enough may be chosen for development – hopefully to appear in CASA 2012, with a fully budgeted production.
Want to get involved?
Simply answer the questions below about an idea that you would like to present. Please provide CVs of those artists and companies involved. Remember: we provide a £250 budget, two days rehearsal space and your own mentor. You come with a strong idea and readiness to create it. The performance will take place on Thursday 20th October and should last fifteen minutes per group.
The questions, to be answered on one side of A4 (that’s roughly 500 words), any way you like:
Please get back to us with the answers to these questions and the CVs of those members of your group by no later than Monday 12th September, by 6pm. Send your applications to “Nuestra CASA – name of group” to casafestival2011@gmail.com . We will review submissions and get back to successful participants by the end of the week, so that work can begin. Rehearsals will take place at some point between the 3rd – 16th of October. We expect to receive quite a few applications so if you have it ready before the deadline, do not hesitate to send us your responses.
Please note: a Latin American company is one whose Latin American artists make up 50% or more of the group. If you are not a UK resident then we cannot accept your submission. Whilst we encourage applications from outside of London, we will not be able to arrange accommodation for those who are from outside of the city. That said, do get in touch with us if that is a worry. We will only be able to contact successful applicants, so if you do not hear from us within two weeks, unfortunately we cannot proceed with your submission this time around. The performance is on Thursday 20th of October, for which everyone in your group must be available.
We look forward to hearing from you!
We’re creating a number of part-time work experience opportunities for anyone over 18 as we prepare for CASA Latin American Theatre Festival 2011 in October.
