Infiltraciones

How can we create greater visibility, connection and representation for Latin American and Caribbean visual practices in the UK?

Presented as part of Lines of Flight
Supported by Arts Council England

Infiltraciones is a collective workshop bringing together artists, curators, cultural workers and researchers interested in visual practices from Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean in the UK.

Despite a growing diasporic community, the presence of these practices within the British cultural landscape remains limited, particularly beyond London. Artists working across different geographies can find themselves occupying an in-between space, navigating questions of representation, connection and belonging within both British and Latin American art ecosystems.

Through conversation and collective reflection, Infiltraciones creates a space to share experiences, identify some of the barriers behind these gaps and imagine practical ways of addressing them. Together, participants will consider how networks can be strengthened across the UK, how relationships with cultural and educational institutions might develop, and what new forms of visibility and collaboration could be created.

The workshop builds on the research project Understanding Latin American Art in the UK and Archivo Vivo, using their emerging questions and findings as a starting point for imagining future actions – or infiltraciones – across the UK cultural landscape.

Part of Lines of Flight

Infiltraciones forms part of Sensory Worlds, the first chapter of Lines of Flight. Through different approaches to proximity, movement, memory and visibility, the chapter explores how perception shapes what – and who – we are able to see, recognise and understand.
