4 July - CASA presents Systems in Question

A day of art examining the structures that govern everyday life

4 July 2026

Taking place on 4 July, a date that became unexpectedly resonant in the development of the programme, Systems in Question turns its attention towards the contradictions, dependencies and failures of the systems that claim to organise and protect contemporary life.

Presented by CASA in collaboration with Brixton House and Performance Art Video, the public programme brings together performance, exhibition and conversation, marking the culmination of the June/July chapter of Lines of Flight.

Systems in Question: Public Programme is curated by Gabriela Román González and Laurenz Agustín Argüello.

Main events include:

The Hollow Men | Theatre 2, Brixton House, 5:00 PM, a new live performance by artist Polo Farrera, developed through the Systems in Question Live Art Residency. Reflecting on the disappearance of his father in Mexico and the failures of institutional systems of investigation and accountability, Farrera writes:

On 2 November 2025, my father was forcibly disappeared in Toluca, Estado de México, Mexico. Four months later, more than twenty police officers arrived at his home: not to find him, but to perform the act of searching. Without protocol, without proper resources, without any real investigative intention, they staged the appearance of a criminal investigation in a place that was never a crime scene. To this day, there is no resolution. Only the weight of what is already known, nothing. This work is born from a single question that has not stopped reverberating: why did they come so late, and why did they come at all?

The performance will be followed by a public conversation exploring how artists and institutions are examining the systems that shape visibility, authorship, and access. Speakers include Mary Osborn (Live Art Development Agency) and Débora Delmar (invited artist), alongside the residency team and participating artists.

Independence | The Nook, Brixton House, 6:00 PM, we will close the evening with the opening of a new exhibition by artists Débora Delmar and Ilê Sartuzi.

Through a series of legally binding agreements presented as artworks, the exhibition examines agency, mobility, labour and cultural production through the lens of law.
