Under the same sun - Exhibition Private Viewing

  • The Nook, Brixton House 385 Coldharbour Lane London, England, SW9 8GL United Kingdom (map)

What does it mean to search for home when belonging is shaped across places, memories and identities?

Presented by CASA and Not The Owners
Curated by Gabriela Román González

Under the Same Sun is an ongoing photographic project by Asafe Ghalib exploring queer migration, belonging and the complex ways in which ideas of home are carried and remade across borders.

Through intimate portraits and personal narratives, Ghalib brings together individual experiences of migration and belonging, creating space for stories that are often overlooked or reduced to broader narratives about identity and displacement.

First presented in London at Somers Gallery, Under the Same Sun continues to grow through Ghalib’s research and photographic practice. For this new presentation at CASA, curated by Gabriela Román González, the exhibition brings together earlier works with a new body of photographs, expanding the project and opening new connections between its stories.

Part of Lines of Flight

This exhibition is part of Acts of Looking, the final chapter of Lines of Flight, CASA’s year-round multi-arts programme curated by Gabriela Román González at Brixton House. Across exhibitions, residencies, dance, performance and celebration, Acts of Looking asks what we choose to pay attention to, what remains unseen, and how changing the way we look might change the way we live.
